Solar eclipse starts over Asia

The longest solar eclipse of the 21st century has begun over a huge swathe of Asia, which could end up being the most watched eclipse in history.

The eclipse is taking place over the most densely inhabited areas of the earth, allowing huge numbers of people in India and China to watch it, AFP reported.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the earth and the sun, completely obscuring the sun.

The eclipse is expected to last six minutes and 39 seconds, a duration that will not be matched until the year 2132. Asolareclipse
