Source: Infighting Likely to Intensify among Rival Terrorist Groups in Syria

“The militant groups in Douma are under growingly tough conditions and this will likely result in the eruption of further rifts and differences among them,” a Syrian military source told FNA on Monday, adding that once rifts among the terrorists widen, liberating the town will be much easier for the Syrian army.

The source reiterated that taking control of Mleiha town means that the strategic town of Douma will also be freed soon.

In June, the UK-based opposition Observatory Group reported that around 7000 people were killed within 6 months (January till June 2014) in the clashes between the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and its rival terrorist groups in Syria.

The toll includes 605 civilians who were killed during clashes, shelling, car bombs and executions.

An estimated 150,000 people have reportedly been killed in the three-year-old conflict, which started as a peaceful protest movement and turned into a foreign-hatched war.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), strongest among the rebel groups, has already announced the establishment of its Islamic State in areas under its control in Syria and Iraq, as the organization has seized large chunks of territories from both countries in recent months.

The ISIL is the richest “jihadist” organization in the world, according to a recent report by Al-Mayadeen TV.

Aside from dues their loyalists pay regularly, the ISIL also looted a total of $425mln from banks in Iraq’s Mosul city after storming it last month.

The report said the organization has been receiving funds over the past 10 years from rich people and organizations in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The ISIL’s overall wealth now exceeds two billion dollars.

As the ISIL grows more resourceful, observers believe that the infighting between this Al-Qaeda splinter group and other “jihadist” groups, which have rejected alliance with ISIL, will escalate.
