Spokesman: Iran Not Worried about Trump

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi underlined that Tehran doesn’t feel anxious over the recent positions and threats made by the new US president, adding that Donald Trump will soon come to comprehend the realities.

“The US has adopted any hostile action that it could against Iran so far and the (Iranian) people have stood against the former US administrations’ excessive demands and have not made any concessions,” Qassemi said in an interview with the Iran-based Arabic-language al-Alam news channel on Sunday.

“We are not so much concerned about Trump because they will finally understand the realities of Iran and its power in the region,” he added.

Qassemi underscored that were the US able to implement its aggressive plots against Iran, it would do them already.

In relevant remarks today, Iranian Supreme Leader’s top aide Ali Akbar Velayati underlined that his country has no concerns about the US president’s words and threats, noting that Trump’s possible aggression against Tehran will lead to a heavy defeat for Washington.

“We are not at all concerned about Trump’s remarks because despite his superficial claims, the situation is not appropriate for him to do what he wants,” Velayati said on Sunday.

Stressing that Trump is wise enough not to engage in a war against a country (Iran) whose people and government are standing like an iron dam to defend themselves, he said, “If he wants to test his chances (in this regard), an unprecedented defeat will be marked in the US history.”

His comments came after Supreme Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Sayyed Imam Ali Khamenei in sarcastic remarks to the US president thanked Trump for showing the true face of his country to the world, and meantime told him that Iranians are too powerful to be intimidated by his threats.

“We are not thankful of that (Obama’s) administration at all because it imposed heavy sanctions (against Tehran) with the aim of crippling the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic and of course, it didn’t attain its goal as no other enemy will be able to cripple this great nation either,” Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Sayyed Imam Ali Khamenei said in Tehran last Tuesday, addressing the Army’s Air Force and Air Defense commanders and personnel.

“Why should we thank the former US administration? For the anti-Iran sanctions? For the creation of the ISIL? For setting fire on Syria and Iraq? Or for their hypocrisy, that is they express sincerity and tendency for cooperation in a private letter but show clear support for sedition (unrests) after the 2009 (presidential) election?” Supreme Leader added in reaction to Trump’s comments that Tehran should thank the Obama administration.

“These are instances of the same velvet glove worn by the former US administration over its iron clad,” Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Sayyed Imam Ali Khamenei said.

Supreme Leader also blasted Trump’s recent remarks that the Iranians should fear him, and said, “Iranians don’t fear threats.”

Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Sayyed Imam Ali Khamenei, meantime, thanked Trump for showing Washington’s real face to the world, and said he proved the correctness of Iran’s warnings about the political, economic, social and moral corruption in the US ruling system.
