Spokesman: Minor Dispute at Iranian, Afghan Border Areas Terminated

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that a minor dispute had erupted between the Iranian and Afghan residents of bordering areas which ended soon with the vigilance of the two sides’ border guards.

Khatibzadeh said on Wednesday that disputes between residents of certain border areas which led to armed clashes in Sistan region were resolved and managed by the two sides’ border guard forces and came to an end.

Reports earlier said that armed clashes had erupted alongside Iran’s Sistan and Balouchestan and Afghanistan’s Nimruz provinces.

According to the official, the shooting took place on Wednesday evening following a dispute among border region dwellers, but the border guards from both sides managed to contain and control it in a peaceful manner.

Khatbizadeh said the region was quiet and clam now.

The clashes erupted on a trivial issue in the town of Hirmand in the Southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan which is neighboring Afghanistan.
