Stormy movement under way in region

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that the US may be willing to highjack the regional uprisings but a stormy movement is under way.

Addressing a group of students and teaching staff of several US universities, he said regional movements are taking place in response to US hegemonic policies.

He stressed that regional nations have been fed up with the bullying policies of the West.

Referring to President Obama’s statements at the UN General Assembly session, he said Obama suggested dialogue with the Zionist regime as a pre-condition for the Palestinians in order to enjoy a state of their own.

The Iranian President reiterated that such proposals would not resolve the Palestinians problem, adding, the Iranian government believes that it is the Palestinians’ right to set up a state of their own.

“We believe that Palestine will one day be liberated,” Ahmadinejad said, noting that it is better for the US to stop supporting the Zionist regime, which was established in a bid to extend dominance over the Middle East.

In response to a question on the issue of Iran-US ties, he said that the problem will be solved only through fulfilling commitments.

Underlining the need for respecting other nations’ rights, he reiterated that no one is the owner of the world.

Tehran believes that the existing regional tensions will only be resolved through self-restraint and dialogue, Ahmadinejad said.

Elsewhere in his speech, he said that the UN was set up with the objective of preventing bullying in the world, but this did not happen.

Underlining the need for administration of justice throughout the globe, he said all world countries should play active roles in global management.

Given the Middle East’s strategic significance, he said certain western governments, particularly the US, have always been willing to extend their dominance over the region.
