Sudanese military airstrike killed 54 civilian at a marketplace

A military airstrike on a local market in Sudan's western region resulted in the deaths of at least 54 individuals, according to reports from aid organizations on Tuesday.

An assault on Tora village on Monday resulted in a significant blaze, with the Sudanese military refuting claims of deliberate civilian targeting, describing the accusations as “incorrect.” Human rights organizations, however, have denounced the action as a “war crime,” citing its severe effects on densely populated areas. Reports indicate that more than half of the casualties were women, and at least 23 individuals sustained injuries in the incident.

The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has resulted in more than 28,000 fatalities and the displacement of millions. Conditions in Darfur are increasingly grave as both parties persist in intensifying hostilities.
