Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council: We not to accept US presence beyond deadline:

Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC) representative in Tehran, Majed Ghamas said the country would not accept further presence of the US forces inside Iraqi soil.

“However the decision had been made and Americans’ performance and actions should be monitored from mow on,” he told ISNA.

His remarks came after Iraqi leaders said Tuesday that they need US military trainers to stay beyond a year-end deadline for American forces to leave but that the troops should not be granted immunity from prosecution.

“Presence of the US forces will not be accepted by us and their stay inside Iraqi territory would not be legitimate after 2011 deadline according the security pact signed between Iraq and the US,” he told ISNA.

Also regarding not giving legal immunity to the US troops who are scheduled to remain in Iraq, Ghamas said, “The decision was demanded by Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council and many political groups. Also we see that Americans will show new moves on the issue.”

Also Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan envoy in Iran Nazem Dabbagh in an interview with ISNA reiterated Iraqi groups and political parties would establish national unity and security in Iraq and said, “A new climate will appear in Iraq which makes long-term presence of the US troops unnecessary if political parties seek creating national solidarity and security instead of sloganeering.”

He added the US is trying to receive legal immunity for its forces.
