Syrian Army troops fended off Faylaq al-Rahman’s offensive on government positions in Jobar in Eastern Ghouta, killing at least 14 militants, military sources said Friday.

“A large unit of Faylaq al-Rahman terrorists stormed Syrian army positions to provide a chance for other rebels to use a tunnel and prevail over the government forces’ positions in al-Zabaltani and al-Barid, but they faced the strong defense of Syrian soldiers, who were waiting for them at the opening of the tunnel,” the army source said.

“Faylaq al-Rahman left at least 14 dead members behind and pulled the remaining pockets of its forces back from the battlefield,” he added.

At least 7 terrorists were also captured by the Syrian army men, according to the source.

He also said that the terrorists, in a retaliatory move, shelled residential areas in al-Abasi’ean and Fares al-Khouri.

Reports said earlier today that a Syrian-Russian military delegation has been discussing terms of reconciliation with Jeish al-Islam in Eastern Ghouta in recent days.

“Jeish al-Islam had previously rejected the Syrian Army’s offer to reconcile; however, due to its recent losses in Douma region, the rebels have agreed to entertain the idea,” the sources said.

“Jeish al-Islam’s elders have reportedly reached out to the Syrian government and Russian military this week to end the hostilities between them,” the sources added.

The Syrian government sent humanitarian aid to the people of the militant-held Douma this week.
