Syria: Al-Nusra Gunmen Agree to Leave Yarmouk Refugee Camp

The AMN website reported that negotiations between a delegation of the Syrian Army and commanders of Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board whose members of mainly from the Al-Nusra) have finally resulted in a verbal agreement to have the al-Qaeda-affiliated fighters in the Yarmouk pocket depart for militant-held regions in Idlib province.

The source added that Al-Nusra’s positions and residential areas in Yarmouk will be handed over to the army units once the final formalities of the deal are negotiated and Tahrir Al-Sham Hay’at militants leave for Idlib province safely.

Local sources said in late April that the terrorists of ISIL and Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at engaged in a fresh round of fierce clashes in the Yarmouk camp, after the former launched three suicide attacks on the latter.

The sources said that ISIL detonated three bomb-laden suicide vehicles near the defense lines of Tahrir al-Sham, a coalition formed by Al-Nusra Front, inflicting major losses on the rival group.

They said that the clashes set fire at vast regions in the camp.

Reports from the camp said that a number of terrorists from both sides were killed in the clashes.

In November, the Syrian government gave a last ultimatum to the ISIL and Al-Nusra terrorists to leave Yarmouk or wait for the army’s crushing attack.

The AMN website reported that the Syrian government had in early November given a month to the two terrorist groups to leave the camp, but after their refusal launched mortar and missile attacks against them as a warning.

ISIL controls nearly 80 percent of Yarmouk camp and al-Nusra Front is in charge of the remaining 20 percent.

Al-Nusra Front is trapped in the siege of ISIL and both of the terrorist groups are trapped in the circle of Syrian government forces.
