Syria censured S. Arabia for supporting terrorists fighting against the government

Syria slams Saudi Arabia for supporting militants

Syria has censured Saudi Arabia for supporting militants fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, saying Riyadh is responsible for the crisis.

In a statement on Tuesday, Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zohbi laid the blame on Saudi Arabia for supplying weapons and cash to the foreign-backed militants and dispatching terrorists to fuel the ongoing bloodshed in Syria.

The minister also criticized Saudi Arabia’s stance on the Syrian crisis, adding the kingdom has failed to act on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

Al-Zohbi’s words came after Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said his country will press ahead with arms supply to al-Qaeda-linked militants in Syria.

Speaking at a news conference with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Jeddah on Tuesday, Saud al-Faisal said his country is doing everything it can to help the militants in Syria and “calls for issuing an unequivocal international resolution to halt the provision of arms” to the Syrian government.

The unrest in Syria erupted over two years ago and many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants fighting in Syria are foreign nationals.
