The Syrian government’s agreement to put its chemical weapons under international control “should be the beginning of disarming Israel,” says Jack Lindblad, a Green Party member of Los Angeles County Council.
Syria deal on chemical weapons should be start of ‘disarming Israel’ On Friday, Syria delivered its chemical arsenal list to the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Damascus delivered the list a day before the one week deadline, set by an agreement between the US and Russia in Geneva, was over.

US officials, who anticipated that Syria would miss the deadline, described the list as surprisingly complete.

“It’s about a year-long process for the processing of all of the chemical weapon containers whether they’re hybrid or put together. It’s quite a lengthy process to disable them harmlessly that doesn’t harm the environment either,” said Lindblad in a phone interview with Press TV on Tuesday.

“So, the list coming about at an earlier time,” he added, “will make the disposal of all the weapons” more efficient.

Lindblad said that Syria’s chemical weapons are “an offset” to the nuclear weapons of Israel, which he described as Washington’s “proxy” in the region and “the man behind the curtain.”

“We can expect, I believe, this dynamic to bring Israel into negotiation and it’s fantastic to think but I believe this can be the beginning of disarming Israel,” Lindblad said.
