According to Syrian Arab News Agency, SANA, the attack was carried out on Friday when Syrian soldiers ambushed the militants in the town of Adra.
Security sources said a senior militant leader was killed in the operation.
On Wednesday, terrorists affiliated to the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and the so-called Jaysh al-Islam infiltrated Adra, killing at least 20 Alawite residents and abducting several others.
They also attacked government buildings as well as the main police station in the town.
Meanwhile, the Syrian army has been tightening the noose on militants in their strongholds throughout the country.
In recent days, army units have made fresh gains in the strategic town of Yarbud, which lies near the border with Lebanon.
Army troops also took control of the strategic Damascus-Homs highway after seizing most of al-Nabk in the mountainous Qalamoun region.
