Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Repels ISIL’s Attack on Gov’t Positions in Deir Ezzur

The ISIL terrorists’ attack to capture the government forces’ positions in the Southwestern outskirts of Deir Ezzur city was fended off by the strong defense of the Syrian military men.

Meantime, the Syrian army and popular forces continued their military advances in other parts of Syria, including Homs, over the past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in other provinces across Syria.

Deir Ezzur

The Syrian Army troops engaged in heavy fighting with ISIL in the Southwestern outskirts of Deir Ezzur city and fended off their attack, killing a number of terrorists.

The army soldiers clashed with ISIL that attacked pro-government forces’ positons at Panorama base and managed to repel their offensive.

ISIL lost a number of fighters and retreated the remaining pockets of its forces from the battlefield to evade more casualties.

In the meantime, the Syrian Air Force launched a number of air raids against ISIL’s positions in Panorama, Iman petrol station, al-Thardah mountain, al-Thardah crossroad, Tal (hill) Aloush, al-Orfi neighborhood and the village of al-Janineh, killing and wounding a large number of terrorists and destroying their military vehicles.

Homs

Field sources in Eastern Syria reported that the Syrian Army troops intensified their offensives against ISIL in two different fronts in Homs and Deir Ezzur, inflicting major defeats on the terrorists in both provinces.

The sources said that the anti-ISIL operations in Eastern Homs to move towards Deir Ezzur and drive terrorists out of both provinces have thus far inflicted major defeat on the terrorists, adding that simultaneous with the army advances on the ground the Russian and Syrian fighter jets pounded ISIL’s movements and gathering centers in Homs and Deir Ezzur.

Other sources, meantime, reported that the army and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters resumed military operation in the Eastern countryside of Palmyra in Homs province, hitting ISIL’s positions along two flanks leading to the Deir Ezzur province.

The Syrian pro-government forces backed by Syrian and Russian bombers stormed ISIL’s positions at the Talileh Reserve, inflicting heavy losses to the Takfiri terrorists, the sources added.

The sources went on to say that the army soldiers and popular forces recaptured the Talileh Reserve in Eastern Palmyra, pushing their way to the strategic Talileh Crossroad.

Hama

The Syrian and Russian warplanes carried out continued combat flights over ISIL’s defense lines in Eastern Hama, inflicting major losses on the terrorists.

The fighter jets bombed heavily ISIL’s positions in the villages and towns of Aqayrabat Emamil, al-Barqoutiyeh and Abu Hanaya in Eastern Hama, destroying several positions and a command post and killing or wounding a large number of terrorists.

In the meantime, the Syrian army’s artillery and missile units shelled ISIL’s concentration centers and movements across frontlines in Eastern Hama, killing and wounding a number of terrorists.

Aleppo

Intensified infighting between two groups of rival terrorists in the town of al-Bab Northeast of Aleppo province left tens of fighters dead or wounded.

Tens of terrorists were killed or wounded in fierce clashes between the fighters of al-Bab Military Council affiliated to the Free Syrian Army’s al-Hamzeh division with the rival terrorists of FSA’s 1st Regiment in the town of al-Bab.

Field sources in Northwestern Syria reported earlier that the Turkish Army will likely attack Idlib under the pretext of ending insecurity in the region after intensified infighting between rival terrorists and assassination of their commanders that have roots in the recent tensions between Doha and Riyadh.

The Arabic-language al-Watan daily published in Syria quoted sources close to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) as saying that the FSA has announced unofficially that if the interests of the FSA and other groups, including Ahrar al-Sham, are threatened in Idlib the Turkish army troops will invade the city.

The paper added that the Turkish army, in a preemptive move, has dispatched hundreds of its affiliated militants from Jarabulus and al-Ra’ei in Northern Aleppo to the borders of the villages and towns of Harem, Darkoush and Salqin in order to use them in a possible military invasion.

The daily went on to say that attacks of Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board) in Ma’arat al-Nu’aman caused Turkey to form another military coalition over its interests in Idlib in order not to let al-Qaeda-affiliated formations to overcome the groups that are backed by Turkey and Qatar.

Sources told al-Watan that Ankara intends to turn Idlib or at least its border regions with Turkey into safe zones similar to Jarabulus but the plan needs hefty amounts of money that can not be paid by Qatar after fresh developments among the Persian Gulf Arab state.

The paper added that the Doha-backed terrorists in Idlib live in the fear that they might be enlisted as terrorist organizations by Saudi Arabia and its allied states.
