Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Repels ISIL’s Attacks on Gov’t Positions in Deir Ezzur

The Syrian army soldiers repelled terrorists’ attack on their positions in Homs province after hours of clashes, inflicting major losses on them.

The ISIL terrorists’ attacks to capture the government forces’ positions in the Eastern parts of Homs province were fended off by the strong defense of the Syrian military men.

Meantime, the Syrian army and popular forces continued their military advances in other parts of Syria, including Damascus and Hama, over the past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in other provinces across Syria.

Homs

The Syrian Army troops engaged in fierce clashes with ISIL in Eastern Homs and repelled their heavy offensive on Friday, destroying one of their bomb-laden suicide vehicles.

The army troops engaged in fierce clashes with ISIL in areas surrounding the town of al-Sukhnah and managed to fend off their attack.

The army men destroyed a bomb-laden vehicle of the ISIL before reaching their defense lines.

In the meantime, other units of the army continued to advance against ISIL in Eastern Homs and took control over the village of al-Tarfaqi Northeast of Abu al-Alaya.

The army soldiers, also, pushed ISIL back from the security company base East of al-Sukhnah along the al-Sukhnah-Deir Ezzur road.

Damascus

The Syrian Army troops discovered terrorist groups’ main depot of arms and ammunition in Western Ghouta, military sources confirmed on Friday.

The army soldiers seized a large depot of arms and munitions in farms near al-Manal street near Khan al-Sheih in Western Ghouta, the sources reported, adding that the terrorists had hidden the weapons in the seized depot before their evacuation to Idlib.

In the meantime, terrorists’ mortar units deployed in Karam al-Rasas region and in military hospital of the town of Harasta targeted the positions of the Syrian Army in Dhahiya al-Assad region and its surrounding regions, violating ceasefire.

Reports said earlier on Friday that the army men struck strongly the positions of Faylaq al-Rahman and Al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at or the Levant Liberation Board) in Eastern Ghouta, inflicting major losses on the terrorists.

The army, led by the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, began the assault by using an UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle to attack the enemy defenses in Ein Terma region.

In addition to the attack on terrorists’ defense lines in Ein Terma, the army’s elite 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division carried out a powerful assault in the nearby region of Jobar, scoring direct hits with their surface-to-surface missiles.

The army has been relentlessly targeting militant positions in Eastern Damascus, as they attempt to force the militants of Faylaq al-Rahman and Al-Nusra to surrender their remaining positions in Jobar and Ein Terma.

Hama

The Syrian Army forces, led by the Republican Guard, stormed ISIL’s strongholds in Northeastern Hama, liberating a number of key locations from the terrorist group, military sources said Friday.

The sources said that the army men took back Khirbet al-Katneh, Jabal (mount) Dawylab and the Tal Mazroor hilltop from ISIL after a brief engagement with the militants South of the town of Ithriya.

This recent advance by the army comes several days after it liberated the village of Marina (for a second time) and a number of points South of it from ISIL.

The offensive operation being witnessed in this region of Syria is all part of an ongoing effort by pro-government forces to create a large buffer zone South of the Ithriya to al-Rasafeh highway and to further isolate ISIL militants in Hama province from their comrades in the Easternmost regions of Syria.

Aleppo

Military sources reported on Friday that a large number of fresh forces of the Syrian Army and National Defense Forces (NDF) have arrived in the Western countryside of Aleppo.

The sources said that reinforcement troops of the Syrian Army and NDF arrived in the Western countryside of Aleppo to strengthen the government’s front-lines in the Western direction of al-Zahra Association Quarter and al-Rashedeen 4 suburb.

While reinforcements have been arriving in large numbers over the last two weeks, it is not clear if the Syrian Army is launching an offensive anytime soon given the ongoing political negotiations.

The army has threatened the militants in Anadan Plain and Rashedeen 4 suburbs to surrender.

Sweida

One of the most powerful Brigades of the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) left more positions in Southern Sweida along the border with Jordan on Friday after the Syrian Army troops’ advances in the region.

With nearly 57km of border territory conceded to the Syrian army units and popular forces in less than 16 hours, the FSA’s Ahmad Al-Abdo Brigade was forced to abandon its positions and retreat across the Jordanian border.

As a result of their losses, the FSA have essentially given up on al-Sweida after more than a year of occupying the Eastern part of the province.

For the Syrian Army, the capture of the al-Sweida’s border with Jordan means the renewal of commerce between Damascus and Amman after more than two years of not sharing a crossing.
