Syria militants in cahoots with Israel: Analyst

An analyst says that the Syrian nation must be informed that the armed rebels are working hand in hand with their Zionist enemy.

The comment comes as the Syrian authorities say they have discovered advanced Israeli spying devices, which further proves the Tel Aviv regime’s involvement in the unrest in the Arab country.

The state Syrian state television on Thursday aired footage of rocks made of fiber material, used to “camouflage” surveillance cameras found on the Syrian coast. It also showed recording and video devices used to transmit pictures and audio “in real time” from “sensitive location.”

Press TV has conducted an interview with Damascus-based political commentator, George Jabour. What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: George Jabour, what is your reading into what has been now uncovered and that his these spying devices by Israel?

Jabour: Well, this was expected. This is not strange to the practices of Israel. Of course espionage is one of the tools of the continuing war between Syria and Israel and as said it is expected but then, of course, we have to disseminate the fact that some of the opposition groups work with Israel.

This is something that might come [be] new to many Syrians.

The opposition groups, not all of them, work with Israel but certainly some of them do and this is a fact that is now rather well-documented and it should be disseminated and the general public in Syria should know about it.

Press TV: And do you think that there are more covert operations that Israel is conducting on Syrian soil?

Jabour: Well, I don’t think that this is strange if it is done and I think it is done; as I said enmity between Syria and Israel an enemy will certainly do everything he can in order to strengthen his position vis-à-vis his enemy otherwise he is not considered an enemy. So it is clear that a weaker Syria means stronger Israel, this is quite clear.

But then, as I mentioned before, it seems that certain opposition groups are working with the Israelis on this and this of course is certainly not good for the reputation of the opposition and certainly the general public in Syria should know about it.
