Syria nominated as permanent member in Palestine affairs committee in OIC meeting inTehran

20140217-145402_h528521The Arab group at the Parliaments’ Union of the permanent member states at the organization of Islamic cooperation nominated Syria as a permanent member at the Permanent Committee for Palestine Affairs in light of its pioneering role in defending the Palestinian cause.

The Group also nominated Syria as a permanent member in the Human Rights, Woman and Family’s Committee.

Syrian Arab Republic participates in the 9th session of the parliaments’ Union of the member states at the OIC, led by Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham.

The conference will discuss parliamentary cooperation among the member states at the OIC, the situation in the occupied Palestine and the role of the Islamic countries in confronting the Judization of al-Quds, plots of the Zionist expansionist entity, the situation on the occupied lands in Syria and Lebanon.

Earlier, the second meeting of the Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Tehran on Monday with the participation of Syria.

During the meeting, the Syrian People’s Assembly delegation called for supporting the Syrian government’s efforts in combating terrorism and condemning all those who support terrorism in Syria, in addition to finding a way to disallow the custodians of holy sites from preventing people from specific countries from carrying out pilgrimage to these sites.

Spokesperson of the 9th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUOICM) Conference Kazem Jalali said that the 26 resolutions proposed at the meeting were passed.

He said that these resolutions touch on issues such as the situation in Palestine and the occupied Arab lands in Syria and Lebanon, unity in the face of threats to the Islamic world, confronting extremism, violence terrorism and Islam phobia, and asserting the right to resistance against occupation and foreign enemies, among other things.

Earlier on Monday, Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham began a visit to Iran during he which he will be chairing the Syrian delegation to the 9th PUOICM Conference.

In addition to the Syrian delegation, delegations from Egypt, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, UAE, Iraq, Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Jordan, Kirgizia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco and Oman will take part in the Conference.
