Syria: Thousands of Fighters Ready to Hit Al-Nusra’s Defense Lines

“They are ready to fight against Al-Nusra Front in case they are directly assisted by Russia. Speaking of the numbers, they are thousands. I have presented a list of 6,700 people, and now the number exceeds 10,000,” Nuaimi said, specifying that the militants ready to support the army have come from the provinces of Homs, Hama and Idlib.

The National Reconciliation Committee is a nongovernmental body made up of Arab tribesmen that mediates between the Syrian government and the armed opposition with regard to reconciliation issues and prisoner exchange.

Nuaimi added that the militants had created a coordination political committee and expressed hope to soon hold a meeting between the armed opposition and the Russian representatives.

“I will order the commanders to raise the flags and they will be ready to participate in (the Syrian city of) Deir Ezzur’s liberation,” Nuaimi added.

Nuaimi also noted that a group of the so-called moderate armed opposition commanders, who arrived in Ankara some two weeks ago, were ready for a meeting with the Russian ambassador and military attaché in Turkey as soon as Russia agreed to it.

“I will tell you and you may not believe, (the armed opposition) wants reconciliation and wants to put an end to the war and some 90 percent of them thinks so. They want to get back to peaceful life and be granted amnesty. But they are afraid and have no trust. Our mission is to create a command which will build trust in them,” Nuaimi said.

Syria has been in the grip of a civil war for over six years. Government forces are fighting against Syrian opposition groups as well as numerous extremist and terrorist groups, such as ISIL and Al-Nusra.

Local sources in Northwestern Syria reported in early June that rival militant groups engaged in another round of clashes in Eastern Idlib, with tribal leaders warning Tahrir al-Sham terrorists to back down or wait for all-out war.

The sources said that Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board) stormed the positions of the rival terrorists of Liwa al-Soud al-Islam affiliated to Ahrar al-Sham in the village of Tal al-Toufan, leaving one of the members of Ahrar al-Sham dead.

In the meantime, Liwa al-Soud al-Islam seized vehicles of Tahrir al-Sham.

The sources went on to say that al-Mawali tribal people that live in Idlib and Hama provinces gave a 48-hour ultimatum to Tahrir al-Sham to free the captured people.

Al-Mawali tribal people threatened Tahrir al-Sham with a joint military operation by all tribes of Idlib and Hama against Tahrir al-Sham fighters if they refuse to release the captives.
