Syria to further cement economic cooperation with South Africa

20140106-143153_h520912The Syrian government stressed its keenness to bolster bilateral cooperation with South Africa in the economic field and increasing trade exchange.

During his meeting with the South African Ambassador in Damascus Sean Bengledet on Monday, Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi hailed the firm and historical relations between the friendly countries and peoples of Syria and South Africa.

He expressed the Syrian government’s desire to make use of South Africa’s special experience in terms of achieving good economic growth and consolidating economic and social integration, in addition to bolstering national reconciliation.

The Premier also referred to South Africa’s experience in localizing strategic agricultural crops like wheat and sugar beet and developing animal resources and food, electronic, technical, scientific and car industries.

Al-Halqi used the meeting to invite companies and businessmen in South Africa to invest in Syria and contribute to the reconstruction process due to start soon.

On the political level, the Prime Minister hailed South Africa’s supportive stances towards Syria at the international forums as it is confronting the global war waged against it.

For his part, Ambassador Bengledet stressed that his country is keen to establish better relations with Syria on the economic and trade levels, voicing hope that Syria will restore security and stability to its lands after eradicating terrorism.
