Syria would become a quagmire for U.S., Rafsanjani says

938796_origExpediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani has said that in case the United Sates initiates a war against Syria, it would not be within its power to wrap it up.
“It seems that the U.S. main target of adventurism in the region is not restricted to Syria, but it involves the entire Middle East region,” Rafsanjani said during a meeting with Expediency Council members in Tehran.

He also voiced deep concern over the unfolding crises across the Muslim world, with Syria at top of the crises.

In addition he said that possible U.S. military intervention in Syria will be a “dangerous warmongering game” that would engulf the whole region.

He described Syria as a “strategically important country” in the region that is also a firm base against the Zionist regime.

He also urged Iranian officials to take a vigilant and conscious stance on the U.S. adventuristic approach which has gripped the region.

Former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was appointed to the council by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on August 5, also attended the meeting for the first time.
