For the first time since Jabhat Al-Islamiyya captured the city of ‘Adra in the Rif Dimashq Governate, the Syrian Arab Army has entered the strategic Industrial Quarter after five days of intense firefights. Upon taking control of the Industrial Quarter, the Syrian Arab Army discovered many buildings destroyed and looted by the enemy combatants; this area was once the industrial capital of Damascus with its abundance of factories and plants. According to a military source, 46 members of Jabhat Al-Islamiyya were confirmed killed-in-action (KIA) and another 31 fighters were wounded or captured.

The Syrian Arab Army captured Tal Kurdi on the outskirts of the city of ‘Adra today, killing at least 30 Islamic Front and Jabhat Al-Islamiyya militants in the process. The SAA discovered a long tunnel that stretched from the city of ‘Adra to the rebel stronghold in Douma. Inside the tunnel was a large cache of weapons, ammunition, mobile phones, drugs, and chemical agents used to produce chlorine gas.

The civilians that were taken captive during the capture of ‘Adra by Jabhat Al-Islamiyya were not found in the Industrial Quarter. Many of the civilians taken captive were employed at the local factories and plants – the majority of the residential neighborhoods in ‘Adra were filled with these civilians. ‘Adra was one of the few cities in the Rif Dimashq Governate that has an ‘Alawi Muslim population within the city’s borders.
