The Syrian army is advancing against the militant groups in the Sothern Dara’a province, military sources announced.

The sources said that the army artillery units shelled the positions of the militant groups in the nearby areas of the towns of Kafr Shams and al-Mismiyeh in al-Sanamin region in the Northern parts of Dara’a city, which forced the fighters to retreat from their strongholds.

Meantime, army troops killed scores of terrorists and injured others in Atman town, about 5 km North of Dara’a city.

The situation of rebel groups in the towns of al-Yadouda, Zamrin, and al-Hara in the northwestern parts of the province was the same, and the army’s operation killed and wounded a number of them.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fuelled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 210,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.

Over 3.8 million Syrians have left their country since the beginning of the crisis. According to reports, more than seven million Syrians have become internally displaced.
