Syrian Army closes important crossing in northern Hama

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) officially closed the Morek Crossing in northern Hama on Friday after another fierce exchange with the militants in the area.

According to a military source in northern Hama, the Syrian Army closed the Morek Crossing because of the deteriorating security situation around the Idlib-Hama axis.

The Morek Crossing was reopened to the public for the first time in four years earlier this month; however, the constant bombardment of this area has deterred civilians from using this crossing safely.

Furthermore, the Morek Crossing was supposed to be part of the 20km deescalation zone that was established as a result of the Sochi Agreement.

However, the rebel forces have refused to withdraw from the demilitarized zone, which has prompted the Syrian Arab Army to reconsider their offensive operations in this part of Hama.
