Syrian Army Cuts off Key Road between Two ISIL-Held Towns in Deir Ezzur Province

The Syrian Army troops and popular forces closed off the strategic road that connects the towns of al-Mayadeen and Albu Kamal in Southeastern Deir Ezzur, well-informed sources reported Friday.

The sources confirmed that the army soldiers stormed ISIL’s defense lines in the Southern outskirts of the town of al-Mayadeen and blocked the road to Albu Kamal on Thursday.

They added the army completed the siege on al-Mayadeen after cutting off the road to Albu Kamal.

The army men entered al-Mayadeen last week.

If al-Mayadeen is captured by the army, Albu Kamal will remain the only main ISIL-held town at the country’s border with Iraq.

The army units continued to advance in Northern Deir Ezzur on Thursday, retaking control over several points near al-Siyasah bridge on the Eastern bank of the Euphrates.

A military source said that the army forces would soon impose siege on ISIL in those Deir Ezzur districts that are still held by the terrorists.

Meantime, other Syrian troops engaged in clashes with the ISIL in al-Orfi and al-Sina’ah districts, killing a large number of militants and wounding tens of them. They also could blow up two ISIL drones in al-Qasour and al-Sina’ah districts.

Also, the Syrian fighter jets heavily pounded the ISIL positions in the districts of Hatleh, al-Salehiyeh, al-Hosseiniyeh, al-Janineh, al-Amal, al-Orfi, al-Sina’ah, al-Hamidiyeh and al-Huweiqa.
