The National Defense Forces (NDF) cleared the area around the Tha’lah Airbase in Al-Sweida on Sunday after a group of militants from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front” and Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Qaeda) attempted to infiltrate the villages around this military installation.

According to a military source in Damascus, the National Defense Forces of Sweida thwarted a major jihadist infiltration at the village of Umm Walid, resulting in the death of several enemy combatants on Sunday afternoon.

Following the battle, the National Defense Forces carried out a cleansing operation to clear any remnants of the jihadist battalions that attacked the area around the Tha’lah Military Airbase in western Al-Sweida.

In addition to the cleansing operation, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division also carried out an attack against a group of Islamic State terrorists in the northeastern countryside of Al-Sweida, killing and wounding a number of jihadists.
