Syrian Army, Hezbollah resume offensive to capture gas rich city in east Homs

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) – alongside Hezbollah and Liwaa Fatemiyoun (Iranian-Afghani paramilitary) – resumed their offensive operations in the eastern countryside of Homs, Wednesday, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) last positions before the Al-Hayl Gas Field.

Backed by Russian and Syrian airstrikes, the 5th Corps and their allies stormed the Islamic State’s positions at two different axes near the T-3 Pumping Station.

Leading the assault this morning on Tal Rumamin was Hezbollah and Liwaa Fatemiyoun; they are currently engaged in a fierce battle with the Islamic State forces at this large hilltop located just 8km west of the Al-Hayl Gas Field.

Meanwhile, south of the Al-Hayl Gas Field, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Corps is attempting to clear the final points under the control of the Islamic State at the northern axis of the T-3 Pumping Station.

Once the Syrian Arab Army is able to take control of the Al-Hayl Gas Field, they will be within striking distance of Sukhnah.

Sukhnah is the Islamic State’s last stronghold in east Homs and key city located along the main highway to the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
