Syrian Army killed many foreign-backed terrorists outside Damascus

Syrian troops battle foreign-backed militants outside Damascus

Syrian army soldiers have killed dozens of foreign-sponsored militants during mop-up operations on the outskirts of Damascus.

On Friday, a number of militants were killed during intense clashes with Syrian troops in the town of Harasta, which is located northeast of Damascus, the official news agency SANA reported.

Two militant commanders, identified as Obada Dahdouh and Noureddin Najjar, were among the dead.

Syrian bomb disposal teams also found and defused five remote-controlled improvised explosive devices at the al-Rasas farms — located between the town of Harasta and the city of Douma, about 10 kilometers (six miles) northeast of Damascus.

On the same day, Syrian troops clashed with militants from the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front terrorist group in the town of Masraba, killing and injuring a number of them. Two militant commanders, identified as Samir Abdullhai and Omar Sallam, were killed in the skirmishes.

Syrian troops stormed several terrorist hideouts in the town of Babyla, and shot and killed scores of militants. Large amounts of weapons and ammunition were also destroyed after fierce gun battles.

Syrian soldiers also raided a number of terrorist hideouts in the town of Daraya, located about eight kilometers (five miles) southwest of Damascus and killed many armed anti-government rebels.

In addition, units of the Syrian Army attacked gunmen and killed a large number of them in the town of al-Ziyabiyeh. Taher Mandil, the leader of the so-called Ansar al-Furat militant group, was identified among the dead.

In the town of Zamalka, about four kilometers (2.5 miles) east of Damascus, Syrian soldiers raided a terrorist hideout and killed many militants. A large amount of munitions was destroyed after heavy clashes.

Syrian soldiers also attacked armed men in the town of Barzeh, located five kilometers (three miles) north of Damascus, and killed scores of them.

The Syria crisis began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of government forces, have been killed.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies, such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are supporting the militants.

In addition, several international human rights organizations say the militants operating in Syria have committed war crimes.
