Syrian Army liberates entire western bank of the Euphrates River

For the first time in years, the entire western bank of the Euphrates River is free of the Islamic State (IS) and all terrorist groups in Syria.

Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) stormed the last areas under the Islamic State’s control this morning, scoring another large-scale advance against the terrorist group.

Not long after launching this attack, the Syrian Army was able to assert full control of Al-Sukkariyah, Siyal, and Ghabrah, resulting in the linkage the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor with Albukamal.

With IS expelled west of the Euphrates, the Syrian government now has an official roadway from Damascus to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

The Islamic State’s Deir Ezzor pocket is now split in two, with the majority of their forces retreating to the desert area in the western part of the province.
