Syrian Army liberates last hilltops overlooking Hayyan Gas Fields

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a decisive counter-attack west of the Hayyan Gas Fields on Friday, liberating the last hills overlooking this strategic area located 40km west of Palmyra.

According to local activists in the eastern countryside of Homs, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Legion, alongside Hezbollah and the 18th Tank Division, liberated the Hayyan Hills on Friday afternoon, following an intense series of firefights that began this morning.

With the Hayyan Hills under their control, the Syrian Arab Army will once again turn their attention to the gas fields, where they hope to expel the Islamic State forces from the area.

Earlier this week, the Syrian Arab Army lost the Hayyan Gas Fields after the Islamic State forces launched powerful attack to reclaim the area; they would ultimately fall back to the Jihar Crossroad, where they would eventually regroup for today’s assault.
