Syrian Army units have been rapidly achieving victories in al-Qalamoun region in Damascus countryside. Many towns there have been in control of militants for months including Raes al-Ein.
This is the main square of Raes al-Ein town in Damascus northern countryside. This was one of the main towns which foreign backed militants escaped to after they were defeated in Yabroud. The town is the second the Syrian army secured fully over the past few days. A large number of militants were killed in the mountainous area. Army units also destroyed some vehicles used by extremists. This Saudi made blanket was found in the car. It had written on it: “The national Saudi campaign for the victory of our brothers in Syria”. Gratitude to the Syrian army was clear among civilians who took to the streets and started cheering and celebrating the return of security to their town. Raes al-Ein is the closest town to Yabroud, previously the main stronghold for the militants in al-Qalamoun which was secured by the army just four days before Raes al-Ein. In Yabroud, one of the main tunnels used by militants was found in addition to a factory for making explosives and rockets. Several booby trapped cars were also there which according to the Syrian army were about to leave for Lebanon. In the meantime, an army operation continues in neighboring Raes al-Ma’ara town. The aim is to fully clear al-Qalamoun of militants.
