The Syrian Army announced on Sunday that it has pushed back the militants groups towards the Homs province’s Northern border, creating a large buffer-zone along the main road that leads from Hama city to al-Salamiyah city in the Southeast.

“Over the last 72 hours, the Syrian army and the National Defense Forces have not only captured 11 villages in Southeastern Hama, but also officially reopened the Hama-Salamiyah Road, that is the primary link between these two important cities in Central Syria,” the army said.

Earlier reports said that the Syrian army and the country’s popular forces drove the militant groups back from more territories in the Southern part of Hama province, and won back a new village after hours of fierce battle with the terrorists.

“The Syrian pro-government forces established full control over Um Rqeibeh village in the Southern part of Hama and western countryside of Salamiyah after hours of battle against the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front,” the army said.

“Nusra militants suffered a heavy death toll and their military equipment was destroyed as a result of the attack,” the army added.

“The village in now under full control of the Syrian forces and the engineering units combed the Um Rqeibeh completely and dismantled scores of explosive devices which were planted earlier by terrorists among houses and farms,” the army went on to say.
