The ISIL’s failed attack on the Syrian army positions near Deir Ezzur airport left 27 militants dead and tens of others wounded.

The ISIL terrorists launched massive strikes against the Syrian troops’ positions in al-Jafra district in the Southeastern parts of Deir Ezzur adjacent to the city’s graveyard using mortars and light and heavy weapons.

The militants could initially open their way into a few areas but the army and tribal forces in Deir Ezzur could launch counterattacks against them, killing 27 ISIL terrorists and wounding dozens of others, forcing the remaining militants to leave the region.

The terrorists sought to occupy the graveyard to come in control of a road linking the center of Deir Ezzur city to the airport in a later phase of their attacks, but failed.

In a relevant development on Friday, the Syrian army troops fended off ISIL’s attacks on their positions in the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur, inflicting major losses on the terrorists.

ISIL launched massive offensives in Deir Ezzur, targeting the army’s positions in al-Mozafeen district and al-Maqabr area.

ISIL began the assault by storming a height inside the al-Maqabr area; this resulted in a fierce clash with the army soldiers.

Following the attack on the mountain, an ISIL unit attacked the army’s defense lines near a cemetery in al-Maqabr, resulting in another heavy fighting that lasted for nearly two hours.

The army men repelled ISIL’s attacks, killing and wounding a number of them.

ISIL suffered a heavy death toll and its equipment sustained major damage in the failed attacks, pulling the remaining pockets of forces back from the battlefields.
