Syrian Army’s Intelligence Superiority Accelerating Damascus Victory in War on Terrorism
The Syrian army’s victories in its fight against terrorist groups has gained momentum in recent months due to the army’s superiority and growing success in collecting intelligence about their hideouts and ambush methods.

“The terrorists in Syria used the US experiences during the 1980s war against the Soviet army in Afghanistan by digging tunnels and canals to ambush the Syrian forces in their garrisons and bases,” a Syrian intelligence officer told FNA on Tuesday.

To counter the ambushes and attacks, the Syrian army’s intelligence forces infiltrated the terrorist groups and managed to foil their plots by attacking them before they could stage a raid on the Syrian militaries, the officer said, describing it as one of the most important victories against the militant groups supported by the western states.

The terrorist groups’ limited successes in gaining control over parts of the Syrian cities have been indebted to such intelligence assistance extended to them by the western countries, specially the US, and certain Arab states.
Last month, sources revealed that the Syrian intelligence agency has been infiltrating terrorist groups in the last two years to hunt down their leaders, adding that the agency has conducted hundreds of targeted-killings against notorious terrorist leaders in the last two years.

“The intelligence agency in Syria has managed to live through two years of crisis, infiltrate militant Salafi and Jihadi groups and take the control of affairs in the Muslim country,” an intelligence agency commander told FNA on the condition of anonymity.

“The Syrian forces have so far done targeted-killings against 500 infamous terrorists after identifying them,” he said, adding that the country’s intelligence agents who have infiltrated terrorist groups have been wiring valuable information which has also been useful in targeting and destroying a large number of ammunition caches of the terrorists.

The commander underlined that the foreign terrorists which act against the Syrian people are the main target of such operations.

Two-and-a-half years after the start of unrests in Syria, now the foreign terrorists fighting against the Damascus government outnumber those who are really Syrian, even by origin.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Salafi Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
