Syrian Army’s Tiger Forces secure important town in east Damascus

On Wednesday afternoon, elite assault troops of the Syrian Army’s Tiger Forces Division seized the town of Beit Sawa in Damascus’s East Ghouta region from Islamist rebels.

The victory came after a day-long battle in and around the town; here the Tiger Forces Division encountered a combined resistance effort from two different militant groups – Faylaq al-Rahman and Jaysh al-Islam.

In the operation to seize the insurgent stronghold, government troops first took control of the farmlands around Beit Sawa, followed by a general storming of the main defense line on its outskirts.

After breaching the primary belt of positions protecting the town, the Tiger Forces assault units entered the main square and prompted a rout of rebel fighters.

With Beit Sawa under its control, the Syrian Army now has the option to attack the militant stronghold town of Masraba from the south as well as the east.
