Syrian Army’s Tiger Forces use danger-close airstrikes and tanks to chase terrorist snipers from key east Damascus town

On Thursday, the elite Tiger Forces Division of the Syrian Army secured the large militant stronghold town of Hammuriyah in Damascus’ East Ghouta region after 24-hours of clashes.

The Tiger Forces Division kicked-off its operation to capture Hammuriyah on Wednesday, storming the farmland areas around the suburb and quickly seizing them before the day was out.

The Syrian Army assault on Hammuriyah itself coincided with the mass exodus of civilians (13,000 people by some estimate) from the district town and nearby areas towards government-controlled territory.

Following the end of the civilian withdrawal from the combat zone, rebel fighters conducted a general retreat from Hammuriyah, nonetheless leaving behind snipers and small hit-and-run infantry units to slow down the advance of government forces into the town.

With the commencement of their advance into the heart of Hammuriyah, assault units of the Tiger Forces employed battle tanks and danger-close airstrikes to chase out Islamist snipers.

By sunset on Thursday afternoon, the Syrian Army declared full control over the town of Hammuriyah.
