Syrian health ministry receives Iran’s medical aid shipment aimed at fighting COVID-19

Iran has sent a medical aid shipment to Syria to support the Arab country’s health ministry better combat the COVID-19 pandemic, Syria’s state media says.

According to a report by Syria’s official news agency SANA, the ministry on Thursday received Iran’s medical assistance, including detection supplies, devices for body temperature screening and oxygen delivery devices.

In a press conference held earlier in the day, Iranian Ambassador to Syria Javad Torkabadi noted that the Iranian aid had come within the framework of excellent relations between the two countries.

He also stressed that Iran’s cooperation with Syria would definitely continue to help Syria curb the contagious disease.

Iran’s envoy to Damascus further said that the medical aid included Iranian-made products used to treat and prevent the COVID-19.

In a similar statement, Syria’s Deputy Health Minister Ahmad Khalifawi noted that the Iranian aid came in support of the health sector in the Arab country.

The Syrian health official also stressed that the desperately-needed aid came while Syria is currently facing difficulties due to long years of war, and the West-imposed economic blockade and unilateral coercive measures.

Khalifawi also indicated that the Syrian-Iranian cooperation came to enhance the deep-rooted and firm relations between the two countries.

He also said that the Iranian-made equipment reflects the progress that has been achieved by the Islamic Republic in the scientific, technological and medical fields.
