20140204-165207_h526111Upon an invitation from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, a Syrian-Iranian-Swiss meeting was held in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss humanitarian needs in Syria and how to respond to them.

The Syrian side was headed by Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister Hussam Eddin Alla, and the Iranian side was headed by Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian, while the Swiss side was headed by Deputy Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Manuel Bessler.

At the meeting, Alla gave a briefing on humanitarian conditions in Syria, underlining the government’s special care for the humanitarian issue and constant efforts to provide citizens’ needs without discrimination.

Alla reviewed the factors which resulted in growing humanitarian needs in Syria, mainly the activities of armed terrorist groups and the unilateral sanctions imposed by some countries on Syria.

He also reviewed the government’s efforts to distribute humanitarian aid, rehabilitating infrastructure and state establishments, reimbursing people affected by terrorism, and facilitating the work of international humanitarian organizations.

Alla thanked the Iranian government for its support for the Syrian people and holding this meeting, and voiced hope for close cooperation with the Swiss side in the field of humanitarian work and lifting the sanctions on Syria.
