Syrian-Lebanese border Al-Qaeda free for first time in years

The Lebanese Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that the departure of the Saraya Ahl Sham militants from the ‘Arsal Barrens has concluded the ceasefire agreement that was put in place late last month.

As a result, the Syrian-Lebanese border has now been declared free of Al-Qaeda terrorists for the first time in several years.

While the Al-Qaeda militants have now arrived in western Damascus, they are expected to be transported to the Idlib Governorate, per the agreement that was put in place.

In the coming days, the Lebanese and Syrian armies are expected to launch simultaneous offensives against the Islamic State (ISIL) militants in the Ras Ba’albak and Jaroud Jarajeer regions.

Once these areas are clear, the entire Syrian-Lebanese border will be under the control of both state governments.
