Syrian opposition has certainly failed: Iran cmdr.

A senior Iranian commander says the Syrian opposition has failed in its anti-government scenario and the ongoing crisis in the Arab country will end soon.

“I am confident that the war in Syria will end and the country will achieve calm,” said Chairman of Iran’s Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi at a Wednesday ceremony in the southwestern Iranian city of Sousangerd.

“I think the opposition has been defeated in Syria and what is happening in the country is the spinoff of the political measures and presence of terrorists in this country,” he added.

On Thursday, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius urged that the European Union’s arms embargo against Syria should be lifted so that France can supply weapons to insurgents in the Arab state.

Meanwhile, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has vowed that if the US-led bid to stoke unrest and insecurity in his country persists, the entire region would be destabilized.
