Syrian PM: Government is working to achieve economic growth for first time in three years

Prime Minister Dr. Wael al-Halqi stressed the importance of partnership between public and private industrial sectors and assembling all capacities of the homeland to upgrade the national sectors and retrieve momentum of the Syrian industry.

Taking part in the annual meeting of the General Commission of Damascus and Damascus countryside Chamber of Industry held under the theme of “National Industry… Confrontations, Sacrifices and Hope in the Future, the Prime Minister pointed out that national industry is the backbone of reconstruction process as it provides the requirements and meets the needs of citizens.

“We all shoulder the responsibility of upgrading the national industries to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development,” al-Halqi said.

He stressed that the government has drawn the current and future Syrian industry policy through setting plans and programs that lead to upgrading the national industries, and it is working to issue several decisions and laws to meet the needs of industrialists and provide the requirements of the production cycle.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the government set development strategies for the reconstruction stage taking into consideration the national and strategic  industries as the backbone of the national economy.

Dr. al-Halqi noted that the government is interested in the export industries being a basic pillar for the national economy and genuine backer of foreign exchange to help the government enhance the stability of the exchange rate and create new job opportunities.

He added that the government is seeking to achieve by the end of the current year economic growth for the first time in three years through developing a group of policies that support the agricultural and medical industries.

The Prime Minister hailed efforts of the honest Syrian industrialists who stood in face of all confrontations and helped enhancing the capacities of the national economy for the homeland to remain proud and dignified.
