Syrian presidential election starts

The presidential election started in Syria at 7 a.m. local time.

According to Mehr news agency, out of 25 million Syrians, 3 million have migrated to other countries due to the chaos and havoc wreaked upon the country by terrorists. But 23 million people are present in the country at the time of election.

15, 845, 575 people are eligible to vote in the Syrian presidential election. The Syrian high committee of election has set up 9,601 constituencies and 11,776 polling stations in all Syrian provinces.

A great number of Syrian nationals were banned from voting in the countries that claim to be defenders of democracy including the US, France, Belgium and a handful of other countries. These people flocked in Syria to participate in this national ceremony.

The current Syrian president Bashar al-Assad competes with Hessan al-Nouri and Maher Hajjar for another 7 year term.

The presidential election was held with a massive turnout of the Syrian expatriates on May 28.
