Syrian speaker to visit Tehran

Syrian Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Abrash will arrive in the Iranian capital on Friday for talks on regional and international issues.

Al-Abrash will arrive in Tehran for a four-day official visit following a formal invitation by Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani.

Larijani visited the Syrian capital, Damascus, in November 2010 while attending the 5th Plenary Session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) dubbed “The Role of the Asian Parliaments in Achieving Security, Stabilization and Peace in the Middle East Region.”

The Syrian parliament speaker’s visit is in line with developing parliamentary and mutual relations.

During his stay, he will hold talks with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi as well as the Majlis Speaker, Mehr News Agency reported on Thursday.

In October 2010, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, heading a high-rankling political and economic delegation, visited Tehran for official talks on the latest regional and international developments.

The two countries have signed two Memoranda of Understanding on free trade and industrial cooperation.
