Syrian Terrorists’ Arms Supplies, Finances Drying Up despite Western Pledges

The so-called Syrian opposition coalition urged its Arab and western sponsors to still increase funding and arms supplies for rebels.

Members of the National Coalition for Syrian Opposition Forces, formed in November, said although the Persian Gulf Arab governments rendered wide support for the armed opposition groups last year the rebels still want more and more backup.

“The supplies are drying up,” said a Syrian businessman who has helped fund the opposition since crisis began 22 months ago, and added, “As a result the fragmented rebel forces have given up hopes of a sweep through the country.”

One of the main rebel commanders, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “I see a very dark period ahead of us, with a total breakdown like Iraq in 2006.”

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Thousands of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
