Syrian Army Repels Terrorists’ Attacks in Fuaa in Idlib

Syrian military sources said that the Syrian National Defense Forces (NDF) rebuffed massive offensives of the militants of Jund al-Aqsa in the countryside of al-Fuaa in the Northwestern province of Idlib.

The sources said on that the terrorists of Jeish Al-Fateh” launched their largest offensive at Al-Fuaa and Kafraya, attacking the two towns in the Idlib Governorate from all sides, as the civilian-led National Defense Forces (NDF) alongside a small group of the Lebanese Hezbollah soldiers defended their positions from every flank.

At the Suwaghiyah-Tal Al-Khirbah axis, the NDF fended off a powerful assault from Jund Al-Aqsa after the aforementioned Islamist group attempted to break-through their frontlines repeatedly on Friday afternoon.

Jeish Al-Fateh – led by Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Jund Al-Aqsa, and Al-Nusra Front began their assault at the besieged village of Deir Al-Zughab, where they encountered a tough contingent from the NDF that was protecting the Southern flank near the Factory Checkpoint.

Following their initial assault on Deir Al-Zughab, Jaysh Al-Fateh sent wave after wave of suicide bombers towards Al-Fuaa, while their combatants waited to storm the town’s Southern perimeter, despite the multitude of airstrikes from the Syrian Air Force that would relentlessly pound their positions in Binnish and Idlib City.

The Al-Qaeda affiliates conducted 8 suicide attacks, with only 1 of them hitting their targets at the town of Al-Fuaa – the successful suicide attack utilized a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) to strike its target at the outskirts of the aforementioned town in the Idlib Governorate.

In early September, the army and Hezbollah forces intended to rescue the residents of Kafraya and Fuaa through a swap plan with the Takfiri militants, but after the Ahrar al-Sham militant group aborted the ceasefire talks, the Syrian army-Hezbollah joint forces advanced in Zabadani and tried to spread their full control over the city.

Now their military objective is breaking the siege of Kafraya and Fuaa, and approaching the two towns from Al-Wa’ar town seems to be an option; FNA reported.
