A Syrian war journalist has been killed while covering the armed forces’ operations against the Daesh Takfiri terrorists in the central part of the country.

Wasim al-Nuqari, 38, was killed Saturday in the eastern countryside of Homs Province, official SANA news agency reported.

According to the agency, the reporter worked for the Syrian TV for many years and had recently started working for the army to cover the war in the Arab country.

Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi in a statement described Nuqari as another “medal” for the Syrian media, “which is real partner of the army in facing the terrorists and misleading war against the country.”

In August 2014, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a New York-based press freedom lobby group, said Syria has been the most dangerous place in the world for journalists for more than two years.

The group added that at least 69 journalists have been killed as a direct result of covering the Syrian conflict since it began in 2011.

On November 16, a Lebanese journalist working for Hezbollah resistance movement was killed in northern Syria while covering an operation against foreign-backed terrorists.

In August 2015, Iranian reporter Mohammad Hassan Hosseini was injured in a mortar attack in Syria’s western port city of Latakia. Back in September 2012, Press TV’s correspondent in Syria, Maya Naser, lost his life in a militant assault in the capital, Damascus.

Syrian forces have recently been making rapid advances against the Takfiri terrorists, who are committing heinous crimes against all ethnic and religious groups, in several parts of the crisis-hit country.

The advances of the Syrian government forces against Daesh and other terrorist groups have been expedited by the air cover provided by Russia, which began on September 30 at the request of the Damascus government.

Gains of the Syrian armed forces

In their latest advances, the Syrian government forces took control of several strategic areas in the northern countryside of the western province of Latakia.

The new gains make it easier for the Syrian army to advance towards the Syrian border with Turkey and attack the terrorists stationed there.

The foreign-sponsored militants said that 11 of their members have been killed in Latakia’s northern countryside, SANA reported on Saturday.
