Syrians demand fair Arab League report

Thousands of Syrians have taken to the streets in the capital to call on the Arab League observer mission to present a fair and just report on their country’s crisis, Press TV reports.

The rally came one day after head of the Arab League observer mission, Sudanese General Mohammed al-Dabi, left Syria for Egypt, where he will present a report on the mission’s findings to a meeting of Arab foreign ministers.

The “decisive” report will note the difficulty the observers may have faced in gaining access to crisis-hit spots and will also indicate whether the mission should be extended or not, said the bloc late on Wednesday.

“We came here today to say that we support the Syrian leadership’s decisions and reform. We hope that the report of the Arab observers on Syria would be neutral and say the truth of what is happening in Syria. I hope the observers convey the true image of events in our country,” said a pro-government demonstrator.

The demonstrators also expressed support for President Bashar al-Assad and his reform programs and condemned foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs.

”The Syrian people have been brave and united for long years, and we support President Bashar al-Assad,” said another demonstrator.

They also thanked the Syrian Army for protecting civilians against armed groups carrying out acts of terror across the country.

Similar pro-government rally was also held in the eastern Syrian city of Deir al-Zour.
