Afghan officials say members of the Taliban militant group have assassinated the governor of a district in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Ghazni in an ambush attack.

A member of the Ghazni provincial council, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Taliban terrorists launched a surprise attack on Mohammad Daud, the district chief for Jaghatu, located 20 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of the provincial capital city of Ghazni, on Thursday morning.

The councilor added that the assailants later took away Daud’s dead body with them, noting that efforts are underway to retrieve the corpse.
