Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated the significance of close cooperation between Tehran and Ankara, saying that it will convey a positive message to Muslim nations.

“Sustainable cooperation between Iran and Turkey would send a positive message to the Muslim world, including Sunnis and Shiites,” Zarif said at the meeting with Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Saturday.

The Iranian foreign minister is in Turkey for a day-long official visit and talks with high-ranking officials.

Also at the meeting, Davutoglu described Iranian and Turkish economies as complementary and called for further development of mutual economic exchanges following the lifting of anti-Tehran sanctions.

He also called for the enhancement of bilateral ties, particularly in the energy and transportation sectors.

He further urged Iran’s high-level participation in an upcoming meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is scheduled to be held in the Turkish city of Istanbul in April, saying the OIC should represent unity in the Muslim world.
