Tehran averted Iranophobia’s success

A senior Iranian lawmaker says Tehran’s good relations with regional countries have left the Western Iranophobia project unsuccessful.

“One of the objectives of bringing up the Iranophobia project is to allow Western countries to sell their weapons in the region,” said deputy head of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Hossein Sobhaninia on Monday.

“Due to the deepening of Iran’s relations with these [regional] countries, the Iranophobia [project] has so far failed to influence regional countries,” IRNA quoted Sobhaninia as saying.

He pointed to the importance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Qatar and said the trip signaled the amicable relations between Tehran and Doha.

In a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on Sunday, President Ahmadinejad said widening the scope of cooperation between Iran and Qatar could establish lasting regional security and reduce foreign threats.

The two officials agreed to maintain the security of the Persian Gulf region through all-out economic, cultural, and defense cooperation.
