Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran backs restoration of peace in Syria.

Sarmadi expressed pleasure with the ceasefire taken effect between the belligerent parties in Syria.
He told Russian news agency, Sputnik, that the satisfactorily honored Syrian ceasefire will help the diplomatic means to work to bring the conflict in Syria to an end.
Iran will continue supporting efforts to establish peace in the crisis-torn Arab republic, Sarmadi said.
Sarmadi said that the ceasefire will help the Syrian government to transform the country to a negotiated peace in line with the International Humanitarian Law.
Reiterating the special UN envoy for Syria’s approval of the role Tehran played in negotiations, Sarmadi said Iran would continue to support efforts to bring peace to Syria.
“We value the role of Russia to enforce the UN-brokered ceasefire and oblige the warring parties to comply,” Sarmadi noted.
Sarmadi said the ceasefire is good opportunity to stop deterioration of humanitarian situation in Syria and to deliver relief supplies to the people in need.
He praised the Syrian government forces and its allies for abiding by the truce, but warned that belligerent armed rebel groups may violate the ceasefire.
