Tehran conference agrees on a follow-up committee for national dialogue in Syria

Representatives of the Syrian government and Syria’s opposition have agreed, at the end of a conference in Tehran, to set up a follow-up committee for national dialogue, with the aim of resolving the crisis in Syria.

According to an IRIB report, representatives of Syria’s opposition and the Syrian government agreed to set up a follow-up committee for national dialogue, as the conference on Syrian National Dialogue drew to a close in Tehran on Monday afternoon. All participants at the Tehran conference agreed that there should be no foreign interference in Syria. The delegates also expressed hope that the national dialogue in Syria should turn into a “national reconciliation process” involving all the parties and groups in Syria.
Delegates representing various political parties and groups in Syria also praised Iran’s facilitating role, and Iran’s initiative in organizing the conference in Tehran.
The participants also emphasized the need for a cease-fire to be established as soon as possible inside Syria, and for the armed conflict in that country to be brought to an end.
The participants also agreed that the follow-up committee for national dialogue should contact representatives of other political factions who have not attended the Tehran conference to invite them to join the national dialogue process in Syria, which in due time, will grow into a national reconciliation process involving all parties to the Syrian conflict.
